WELCOME TO NODROG
The NODROG Gordon Setter Club of
Michigan, INC is an organization dedicated to promoting the
BEAUTY, BRAINS & BIRDSENSE
in our black and tan Gordon Setters
___________________________________________
Our club was organized in 1983, and for 11
years we operated as an area committee of the Gordon Setter national
or "parent club", the Gordon Setter Club of America, Inc, In 1994,
the NODROG Gordon Setter Club of Michigan was officially licensed as
a fully independent organization by the American Kennel Club, but we
maintain close ties to the GSCA.
We annually host 2 AKC field trials, 2-3 AKC hunt tests, and
independent specialty show with obedience and rally trials, and a
number of educational and "fun events", including a yearly eye exam
(CERF) and heartworm clinic and a summer fun picnic.
We are especially proud of our Gordon Setter rescue program. We
place an average of 5-7 dogs annually in new homes. These dogs are
evaluated for any health and temperament issues and placed with new
families. We are always looking for potential foster families as
well as folks willing to adopt.
We also have an active breeder referral program which matches
prospective owners with responsible breeders of puppies and adult
dogs.
____________________________________________
At
present, we have approximately 115 members, most
of whom reside in Michigan, but also have members in Maryland, Oregon, Georgia,
Ontario, New Jersey, Illinois, Indiana, Florida, Ohio, Maine and Minnesota.
Membership is open to all interested Gordon fanciers, but Michigan,
Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Ontario residents will benefit the most from club
membership since all club events are held in Michigan.
| WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU JOIN OUR
CLUB! |

I adopted Sheamus, aka Red as he was known to Nodgrog, in 1995 when he was
10 months old. He's going into his 16th year and although
he has a hard time seeing and hearing (you would never know
the way he runs around the house!) he is still my good and
faithful companion.

AKC Announces changes to the Rules Governing Dog Shows:
Effective on a variety of dates in 2010, the AKC has
announced important changes to the rules, following a long
period of consultation with its’ delegates, exhibitors,
breeders and others representing a cross section of the
fancy. Details are available at:
http://www.akc.org/enewsletter/ecbulletin/2010/winter/changes.cfm
Here is a brief summary:
Jan 1 brought in changes to event registration rules,
including the need to register Bred-By-Exhibitor entries by
the day of the event, allowing only individually registered
dogs to be entered in AKC licenesed or member events (unless
entered in Miscellaneous classes).
Foreign-registered dogs must be properly registered in
foreign registries accepted by the AKC.
This means that litter numbers are no longer acceptable for
most entries in AKC events, but ILP or the newer PAL numbers
are acceptable in appropriate events. On or after July 1,
conformation shows which include a 12-18 month junior
dog/bitch class can be further subdivided into 12 months but
not yet 15 months, and 15 months but not yet 18 months
classes.
Subsequent to the May 10, 2010
release of the new Points schedule for Conformation shows, a
number of changes will also take place-involving the new
‘Grand Champion’ title and how points are tallied for that
title; ‘Select Dog and Select Bitch’ awards; point tallies
for those awards as well as for BOB, BOS, WD, WD, BOW.
Those of our NODROG family who exhibit dogs in AKC events
are encouraged to make themselves informed about these
changes in greater detail |
